Mid-summer miles feeling stale?

It’s normal to hit a slump when the easy miles starts become bland. But what if I told you that mileage building is not exclusive to building your summer foundation? Add these key elements to stay engaged:

✅ Short track reps to keep your legs springy
✅ Mix in hills to build speed and strength
✅ Progression runs to teach pace control and mental resilience
✅ Hit the trails to reconnect with nature and build durability
✅ Strength train to stay efficient and healthy
✅ Cross train (with intention) to increase volume without the extra pounding

Don’t let summer mileage turn into a mindless grind. Spice it up, stay engaged, and keep your goals in sight.

Not sure where to start?
I offer custom training plans to help you stay motivated, train smarter, and maximize YOUR performance.

#xctf #PPRCrunning🏅 Famous Friday: Cassidy Walchak-Sloan I PPRC Elite

I got into running after I quit soccer. I didn’t take it seriously until my senior season was canceled due to COVID — that pushed me to reach out to my college, and they let me walk onto the team.

I’m most proud of my 6K at D2 XC Nationals, where I became All American running 20:34 breaking the school record.

My hardest setbacks have definitely been injuries and taking weeks or even months off. But I bounce back by reminding myself I’m so much more than just a runner. I love the sport, but it’s only part of me — it’s my chance to show how hard I can work.

I’m motivated because I want to keep testing my limits and see just how fast I can be.

Favorite workout? Definitely 200s and 400s.
Pre-race ritual? Taylor Swift’s Reputation album on repeat.
Post-race treat? Matcha, all the way.
Current shoes? Hokas, for sure!

Outside of running, I still love playing soccer — sometimes I think it’s even more fun!

I look up to Faith (Kipyegon). Her sub-4 attempt was so inspiring for female runners everywhere.

The best advice I’ve gotten? From my dad: “You may not be the fastest, but you’ll always work the hardest.”

My pre-race mantra? “I am the fastest b**** on this track.”*
I stay focused by enjoying it all — the soreness, the fatigue — it’s all part of the journey.

Right now, my biggest goal is to rest and recover. I’m loving this break from competition and soaking it all in.

#HokaRunner🏅 Famous Friday: Kya Ramirez | PPRC Elite

Before she was chasing down marathon goals, Kya was a level 10 gymnast with a quiet love for running. In 8th grade, she made the switch — and never looked back.

“I knew I wanted to take running seriously after the Oregon State High Performance meet my freshman year. I ran in the 19s for the first time, and my coach’s face at the finish said it all. That moment lit a fire.”

But her story isn’t just about PRs. It’s about heart.

During her senior track season, Kya stepped away from racing to care for her mom, who battles a chronic illness. “She’s my world — no race matters more.” Kya is still her caregiver today, and she’s slowly returning to the sport she loves.

Running has taught her discipline, resilience, and purpose. Now part of PPRC Elite, coached by her former college coach Matt Lowe, she’s training with intention and gratitude. “It feels good to be part of a team that believes in me.”

She’s got her eye on the Boston Marathon — fueled by long runs, golf breaks, and pasta plates. Her favorite mantra?
“You just have to be yourself and go full with confidence and be courageous.” — Gabby Douglas

We see you, Kya! 💪💙

#marathon📣 Episode 2 is LIVE: The Recruiting Game Has Changed

Want to get recruited in 2025 and beyond? You’re not just competing with other high schoolers for a spot anymore.

You’re competing with:
🔁 NCAA Transfer Portal athletes
🌍 International recruits with national-level experience
📚 JUCO transfers who may now get up to 6 years of eligibility

And here’s the truth:
👉 Only 2% of high school athletes go on to compete at the Division I level.
👉 If you’re waiting until spring of senior year, you might already be too late.

In this post, I break down how:
• The transfer portal reshaped recruiting
• International athletes are filling roster spots
• A temporary JUCO rule is shifting timelines again
• YOU can still take control with a real plan

🎯 Don’t just chase a logo. Chase fit, development, and the right support system.

Olympic rainforests. Cascade peaks. Hidden waterfalls. With the trails filling up this summer, so are search and rescue reports.

📍 June 8 – Olympic National Park
An 18-year-old slipped above Sol Duc Falls and fell 50 feet into the gorge. Crews recovered his body the next day.

📍 June 14 – North Cascades
A 25-year-old climber fell 80 feet and broke her leg. A satellite SOS and rescue helicopter saved her from hypothermia.

🚨 In Olympic NP, SAR missions have more than doubled.
In the Cascades, alpine rescues are up 100% over the last decade.

Before your next adventure—tell someone your plan, pack smart, and respect the terrain.

Nature always wins. The goal is to make it home.

We first met over breakfast at the Holiday Inn in Geneva, Ohio — the day before the 2012 NAIA Indoor Championships. I watched her race and knew I had to get her number before she left the track. Luckily, I did.

Since then, I’ve watched Sarah grow from a national champ to an incredible mom, teacher, and coach — and she’s never stopped showing up with heart.

“I first started running after telling my dad I beat a bunch of boys in the PE mile — he told me to join the track team. I quit soccer junior year to run cross country and fell in love with seeing myself improve. I wasn’t always the most coordinated kid in PE, but running was where I fit in.

Coming back after two kids has had its ups and downs, but I still feel like a runner — I’m consistent, and I don’t quit.

My proudest moment was winning the 5K national title my senior year of college. But that same year, I faced my toughest setback — underperforming at cross country nationals. I was overwhelmed with pressure, doubting myself, and battling race anxiety. Through journaling, support from my coach, and leaning on friends, I found a way to reset.

Saturday track workouts and post-run tacos were the best. And my favorite race? Getting 2nd in the 1500m as a freshman — from the slow heat.

Running is still where I find clarity and strength. It’s taught me to bounce back, to keep going, and to lead with purpose — as a coach, teacher, and parent.

I love seeing athletes’ hard work pay off, especially when I get to talk race strategy and they trust my advice. Coaching my brother was also a highlight.

I still love running, and I still want to be fast. My advice: be patient, trust the process, and don’t overlook the little things — it all adds up.

Current shoes: HOKA Cliftons.
Mantra: Always keep racing. 🏁”
